History

The Green Forest Temple was first established in Felton, California in 1986. The founding member of the school was George Husek who is a disciple of Paul Eng (Chief instructor of the Tai Mantis Association in Campbell, California.) In 1995 Scott Ripke began teaching with George Husek and by 1997 the Sifu Husek moved to the Chezck Republic and Scott Ripke took over full responsibility of the school. In 1999 the school was moved to Aptos, California.

Scott Ripke began learning Chinese martial arts when he was fourteen starting with Northern Long Fist in 1974. In 1977 he began to study with Paul Eng and learned everything he could from him; Hung Gar, Fu Jow, Northern Long Fist, Tai Chi Praying Mantis, Seven Star Praying Mantis, Tai Chi, Xing Yi and Ba Qua. In 1987 after ten years with Paul Eng he went on the study with Adam Hsu. From Adam Hsu he learned; Long Fist, Chen Tai Chi, Ba Qua, Ba Ji and Pi Qua. In 1997, after having studied with Adam Hsu for ten years he began to take on the responsibility carrying on the Art.

In 1989 Scott was introduced to Six Harmony Praying Mantis from Shi Borong who was his Kung Fu brother through Adam Hsu. They continue to have a relationship to this day.  Six Harmony Praying Mantis can beautiful and eloquent when it is done properly and the Six Harmony methodology is the foundation of the Green Forest Temple curriculum.  The main styles taught are Long Fist, Praying Mantis and Chen Tai Chi.  The major weapons taught at the Green Forest Temple are Saber, Sword, Staff and Spear.
